let's be clear: we will all be dead writers one day. Waiting in the holy silence for what's mine to say.

"I'm from New Jersey and sometimes my opinions are too big for my mouth." Love it - and so would Jon Stewart!

Mahalo, Laura, for this! I'm at the writers' conference, too, and hope to meet you. Audre Lorde's good words and all of your, too, help immensely!

Many moons ago, I wrote this on a FB post: "Why do you "...gotta do algebra and shit?" Here's why I think: It's because you gotta learn how to think. If you can think and apply logic - even if it doesn't look like the "square on the hypotenuse" - if you can think and apply logic you can solve a vast number of life's problems and challenges. Exams are not there for society to judge your inadequacy but for you to know your strength. And your weaknesses. Because the strongest people are those who understand their weaknesses and gather others around them to compensate, knowing that their success comes not from privatised individuated effort but from the contributions of many. Learn algebra and learn geometry and even learn grammar and literature and learn about some obscure dead guys called Pythagoras and Shakespeare because one day that stupid triangle may save your life and so might MacBeth."
